The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has always been in contact with Mayor Vicente Emano in the rehabilitation of the victims of the flood brought by typhoon Sendong.
This is what DSWD Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman made clear in a letter to a national paper where she denied reports about confusion in Cagayan de Oro in the conduct of relief and rehabilitation of flood victims.
“The officials of DSWD Region 10 meet with him on a regular basis to address immediate concerns and needs related to relief operations,” says Soliman in her letter to the Philippine Star executive editor Ana Marie Pamintuan.
Soliman added that she had immediately communicated with Mayor Emano through the phone line of Congressman Bambi Emano the night the typhoon Sendong struck Cagayan de Oro City.
“Since then, the DSWD has been in constant coordination with Emano regarding the management of evacuation centers, early recovery and rehabilitation,” the Secretary said.
Soliman’s letter was sent to the Philippine Star to clear up any doubts and to deny the misleading report in Ernesto Maceda’s column on the same paper about non-coordination between Mayor Emano and the DSWD.
