Lumads: Organize Task Force to Protect Natural Resources

In the hopes of putting a stop to the illegal logging and illegal mining activities in the mountain regions of the city, a group of concerned Lumads requested that a permanent Task Force be organized to protect the city’s natural resources.

This request has been submitted by the Higaonon Tribal Council in Barangay Pigsag-an to the office of City Mayor Vicente “Dongkoy” Y. Emano and to DENR-10 OIC Director Corazon Galinato.

According to the group, there’s widespread illegal tree-cutting and mining activities in their ancestral domain in Sitio Guinitan, Barangay Pigsag-an, and Sitio Maholo in Barangay Tagpangi.

The tribal council added that they could not act to block the loggers/miners because the latter are armed with rifles.

We hope that you can immediately act on our request so that we could prevent another tragedy to our city,” the group pleaded.
