Timely Legislation Paves the Way for Immediate Release of Calamity Funds

The approval of Ordinance No. 12241-2012 providing grant of financial assistance to victims of cyclone Sendong has paved the way for the release of the city’s 5% calamity fund or Risk Reduction and Disaster Management Fund (RRDMF).

The ordinance got the approval of the Cagayan de Oro City Council led by Honorable Vice Mayor Caesar Ian Acenas through the strong support of Honorable Mayor Vicente “Dongkoy” Y. Emano as early as January 17, 2012. Its immediate approval was seen in the light of the City Government’s aim to immediately provide financial assistance to the displaced and cash-strapped families whose livelihood and properties were greatly affected by the major devastation.

These efforts were undertaken by the City Government as part of its current comprehensive rehabilitation effort to support and strengthen Sendong survivors to rise up again. In the process, gain full recovery and be able to rebuild their lives once again. Rebuilding their lives from the great loss impacted thousands of families living near the great river of Cagayan de Oro City.

Now on its fifth phase of distribution, the City Government shelled out P50,537,400.00 million, benefiting 8,876 families whose houses were either totally damaged or partially damaged.
