Senator Manny Villar (3rd from left) and Congresswoman Cynthia Villar (left), together with Congressman Bambi Emano (2nd from right), Ating Koop Partylist Congressman Isidro Q. Lico (2nd from left), Vice Mayor Caesar Ian E. Acenas (4th from left), City Councilor Dante Pajo (right), and City Councilor Pepe Abbu(3rd from right, partly hidden) did the honors of cutting the ribbon during the Sendong Memorial Blessing & Dedication Ceremony, October 25, 2012 at Golden Haven, Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.
Senator Manny Villar announced during the occasion his plan to retire from politics and instead focus his energies on the Villar Foundation.
Congresswoman Cynthia Villar on the other hand seems intent on pursuing her political career as she revealed that she is bringing her livelihood projects (e.g. composting and coco-net programs) to Cagayan de Oro City. In her speech, she stated that ‘Sendong has not diminished your (CdeO’s) resilience and resolve…” and that the Memorial which she and Senator Manny Villar built through the Villar Foundation “will stand as a lasting tribute” to those who perished in the tragedy that was Sendong.
