February 1: Groundbreaking of new Relocation Site in Pagatpat

Now that the purchase by the City Government of the land in Pagatpat owned by the Roa family has finally settled, the plan for its conversion into a relocation site is finally pushing through. In fact February 1, 2013 is set to be the date of the groundbreaking ceremony or ‘padugo sa yuta‘ of the 16-ha Pagatpat Relocation Site.

More than 2,000 duplex type houses are in the drawing board and will soon be constructed in the said site. It is here where those Sendong survivors and citizens who are still living in ‘high risk areas’ and ‘danger zones’ will be relocated.

DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman has set aside a total of P140M for the construction of the houses in this relocation site where the Habitat for Humanity will handle the construction themselves. Aside from the DSWD’s donation, the mayor is hopeful for additional aid especially from the San Miguel Foundation.
